What are my mounting options?
Axle + Fast-Release Dropouts: We ship you a Tailfin Axle to swap out for your own, our Fast-Release Dropouts allow you to mount/dismount the rack from your bike in seconds.
Frame Mounts + Fast-Release Dropouts: We ship you Frame Mount Adaptors which attach to your bike’s frame mounts, our Fast-Release Dropouts allow you to mount/dismount the rack from your bike in seconds.

Which Axle do I need?
If you need help figuring out which axle type to use, please use our guide posted here as a reference.
Most Bikes Use a Quick-release Axle (Pictured above-right)
Use the guide below ONLY if your bike uses a Thru-Axle. If you’re unsure – see above.

The X Series is our do-it-all rack. It combines the best of both worlds: side and top-mounted bags. It’s also quick release and fits any bike.
The Tailfin X Series has been engineered to blend seamlessly with your bike. It is an evolution of the original T1 rack, winner of a prestigious Red Dot Design Award.
The rigid wishbone-shaped carbon or alloy frame offers exceptional agility, with no sway or rattle.
The X Series rack contains a top-mounting feature to accommodate the AeroPack Trunk.
Ingenious fast release dropouts make it simple for you to use one rack for all of your bikes or one bike for everything.
The rubber grip fits to any seat post (including deep aero) with no risk of damage.
The X Series boasts perfect geometry to avoid heel strike, and the ‘pack and go’ design avoids the need for awkward adjustments.
The twin top stay adds further functionality so you can attach lightweight gear
The X THREE features an alloy arch and alloy top stay for the most demanding types of riding
The AeroPack X rack will fit nearly all tyre sizes:
26″ – Up to 4″/100mm
27.5″ – Up to 3.5″/85mm
29″ – Up to 3″ /75mm
It’s now possible to attach our racks directly to frames with eyelets. The quick-release rack dropouts are modular so you can choose to use them, or not.
With the Third-Party Pannier Adaptors, it’s possible to fit different brands of bike bags to the X Series pannier rack.
The Frame Mount Adaptor set allows you to mount directly to your frame mounts but still keep the Fast Release Dropouts for easy on and off rack mounting.
Replace your axle with a Tailfin axle to mount the Tailfin rack. Most bicycles use a quick-release axle, however, we also support the new Thru Axle standards (e.g. 12×142, 12×148, E-Thru, Syntace X-12, etc)

I bought the X-series THREE with two SL Panniers. After trying to fit camping gear and clothes into a number of distributed bike packing bags on my road bike and eventually giving up, putting the same gear into the SL Panniers was a breeze, and very easy to access. I haven't had a chance to go camping yet, but did go on a 60km test run including some gravel and they were solid. Obviously it felt a bit rear-heavy (had 7kg+ of gear) and didn't get a chance to try on any serious climbs but felt stable out of the saddle. It would be good if Tailfin could also work on a front handlebar bag for road-bikes, something easy to attach/detach, stable, and not getting in the way of hand-positions and levers.
A couple of minor negatives: instructions for the rack assembly were not the clearest: the lockings are loose and don't seem to lock in position, and the small plastic insert from one of the dropouts was missing, which left it rattling until I substituted a small rubber earbud instead.
I bought the alloy version of the X Rack. Shipping was extremely fast and packaging was impeccable. Assembly went well after watching the online video. The quality and the look of the X rack and the top bag is fantastic, I just love them!
