Awards and Reviews from the people you trust the most.

“For those who choose to bikepack on rigs that are completely bereft of bonus eyelets, and the ability to fit a cargo cage of some sort, the Downtube pack is definitely an appealing solution to carrying extra gear. It’s durably made, 100% waterproof, and considerably kinder to your paintwork than Velcro-mounted alternatives.”

“Tailfin’s Downtube bags nicely fill a gap in their lineup for folks that are lacking dedicated mounting points. The pack is remarkably stable and well thought out, with materials built to last years on the road.”

Did the job as promised

This pack has now been through over 1000 km and kept out the mud, rain and dust effectively. Because of how I’ve packed the tube, and my choice of contents, the top part has a tendency to fall forward and touch the front tyre. This was rectified with a third strap holding the top enclosure to the frame. No big deal as the contents (tools, hand pump etc) are only required in a calamity.

downtube pack — 3L

I’ve put ~800 miles on my downtube pack so far during a handful of rides and ultra races, and it’s barely looking broken in. I can’t believe how solidly it stays in place and out of the way while tackling all kinds of gnar, including raucous descents, log hopping, and rock gardens. It’s been great for storing tools and occasionally stashing snacks, spare layers, and other miscellaneous items. It’s undeniably waterproof, durable, and one of the most reliable pieces of gear I own.

Most versatile equipment I ever had. Using it on my road bike and MTB for bike packing trips.

Thanks for completing a review for us Katharina, glad to hear the bag is getting used on all your bikes! All the best, Dan

What size DownTube pack can I carry?

1.7L Down Tube Packs are best suited to Road and gravel bikes due to the width of the cranks and down tube. MTBs will fit either 1.7L or 3L DownTube packs and we recommend the 3L for MTB more often. This is due to a wider crank spacing, wheel clearance and down tube.

Are the DownTube Packs waterproof?

The bag is completely waterproof as long as you ensure you include at least two tight rolls of the material before closing.

Can I bolt the DownTube Pack onto my frame mounts?

The way the bag is designed, means you cannot insert screws into the frame from inside the bag. It is fitted with V-Mounts to use with our TPU straps instead.

What are these packs designed to carry?

They are perfect for spares and tools. Put them on the frame and forget they are even there!

Are there multiple ways to close the bags?

Yes, you can roll close them and clip the ends together at the top of the bag, or roll them and use the T-hook straps to clip them down the sides to keep the top of the bag away from the front wheel.

What are the differences between DownTube Packs and Cage Packs?

The DownTube Packs have V-mounts so they can be placed directly onto your frame and the Cage Packs require one of our Cargo Cages in order to be fitted to the bike as they do not come with v-mounts.
