Choosing the axle needed for your bike is not always straightforward. We’ve created this guide to help you choose.
Note: This guide references our CargoPack, formerly known as the AeroPack system – part of our modular Pannier Rack range
A distinctive feature of the Tailfin Carbon or Alloy Pannier Racks, CargoPacks and SpeedPacks is securing the system to the bike via the wheel axle. Although frame mounting is possible, axle mounting is stronger and allows the full strength and security of our design to peak.

Using the Tailfin Axle Finder
To make things as straightforward as possible, you can use our Axle Finder Tool to make selecting the right axle for your bike that bit easier.
Printable Templates
Our printable templates help you to check which Thru-Axle is required for your bike by measuring the thread pitch of the axle. These are available in A4 or US Letter sizes. You’ll need to print these and compare your bike’s current Thru Axle as a comparison.

Why mount via the axle?
To maximise the carrying capacity and versatility of our Rear Systems, we developed specific axles that replace the existing axle used to fix your rear wheel in place. This axle is one of the most unique features of the Tailfin Rear Systems and is key to how they connect securely to your bike. The rear axle makes the perfect lower mounting point for a rack, as it is one of the strongest components of your bike. Axle mounting helps isolate the additional forces applied to a bike when a heavy load is being carried, which results in less stress on your frame.
For more details on the various ways to mount a Tailfin Rear System to your bike, see the guide on Pannier Rack, CargoPack and SpeedPack mounting options.
