Superbe produit !
Packaging is perfect. The rack and panniers are so well thought out it is difficult to describe. Every small part is creatively engineered.
Ok, the only negative and the elephant in the room...it is expensive but so are BMW's and Audi's! You get what you pay for and you are almost certainly fitting this to a bike which also cost a lot of money as well, so fit the coolest rack available!!
This rack and pannier are AWESOME. Brilliantly simple idea with the QR extension, but superbly designed and engineered. Carbon fibre construction is excellent and looks great. Incredibly light weight and secures rigidly to the bike, whilst the pannier secures absolutely rigidly to the rack. All very simple to attach and remove as well. There is NO movement from either rack or pannier even when throwing the bike about. When you ride you are totally unaware of the Tailfin being there. I can go up my favourite climb out the saddle and not feel the bike affected by it. Also the pannier sits well back from your foot so it doesn't interfere, even when clipping in.
Carrying a backpack is madness when you can have this, plus you can load it up with weight if you need to, in a way you wouldn't with a backpack. I love this, best purchase I have made in a long time. Will never carry a backpack again. If you are debating it like I did for too long, particularly thinking it is pretty expensive and maybe not worth it; I think it is well worth it and wish I had got one earlier.
The only cycling rack system for a truly a ultralight touring build
The whole process has been excellent, especially James Atkey support response.
I’m using the Tailfin for my daily commute, much more comfortable and easier on my back than the rucksack
Very good customer service, excellent product, the only thing that could be added is a handle for carrying, but that is very minor. Very happy with the rack as it doesn't get in the way at all compared with what I have seen from other racks.
Really easy to mount on the bike. And the product looks really great on my bike.
Innovative graceful design attaches with delightfully intuitive ease, ingeniously seamlessly becoming part of my bike;
Had an early opportunity to verify panniers are indeed waterproof under deluge;
Unequivocally satisfied my basic rack/bag efficacy test:
"Can I get a dozen eggs safely home.”/Will it transport a watermelon?”,
with even an asymmetrical load feeling perfectly stable and balanced over numerous hills, around multiple curves, and across patches of inhospitable gravel.
Of paramount importance
The system supports rather than compromises cycling exhilaration….the crucial, intrinsic giddily liberating, weightless element of “Wheeeeeeeeeee!”
Overall, the Tailfin performs as advertised. Its very light, easy to install, and dissemble. I use it for commuting weekly and it has saved my back from the strain of carrying a bag. Still, the light weight has a cost.
I took the Tailfin on a shortish tour along the shore of Connecticut, through Rhode Island, to Martha's Vineyard and back. Along the way, the plastic bar on the pannier that prevents "bouncing" snapped-off at the connection point on the bag while I was riding. I promise that the bag was not overloaded and was packed well under the stated weight limit. It broke because the plastic is very thin at this point. I'm assuming its constructed this way to save weight. The Tailfin and bags are exceptionally lightweight; however, this means the materials aren't completely indestructible. I was able to buy some epoxy at a hardware store to repair the issue, but the bar isn't as rigid as before.
I would definitely recommend this product to someone riding a carbon fiber bike who wants the ability to use the same bike for commuting, group rides, touring, and the occasional race. Just know that, like all lightweight material, it's not going to be indestructible.
A really well thought out and finished product. The design is excellent and very easy to use. Hopefully time will show that reliability is at the same level.
I love the way I can put the pannier rack on my bike when I need to use the pannier and not have it on all the time. The pannier bags are well shaped and I never hit my feet against them when pedalling which has always been a problem before. They look great too and are super lightweight, looking forward to going on a cycle tour now to fully test them
I took the rack and panniers on a tour in Hokkaido, Japan in July 2017. Easy to use, relatively light, nice looking and stronger than they look. Easy to detach for hotels or plane travel. Excellent product.
Excellent design and product. My gravel bike continues to look like a gravel bike, and not like a tractor.
The rack is really good - light, stable, and doesn't interfere with peddling. Everything's well thought out, including the mounting options and design of the panniers. Company was very good at keeping investors up to date as they finalised the design before shipping.
"Took delivery in May on a day I had commuted with my backpack. I received delivery at work and it took me more time to unbox than to actually install the axle, attach the Tailfin to my bike, load my panniers and head home!
Frankly, as a backer, I didn't know what to expect but knew I wanted someone to bring this to market. Riding with a ton of gear on your back gets uncomfortable on a long ride (for me) as I end up either with an overheated back or sore shoulders. Keeping a separate bike for commuting and another for Grand Fondos isn't my nature...I like to ride the bike my ""favorite"" bike all the time. Like most people looking at/backing this Kickstarter product, my bike doesn't support traditional panniers so price wasn't really a consideration. (More on that later...)
The fit and finish of the frame, attachment points and axel replacements is superb. The frame is amazingly light yet doesn't have any rattles or loose fittings. More than a simple clasp, the axle locks have a spring loaded lock and the it supports a locking security screw if you really want to make sure it can't be removed. I have dealt with enough mechanical things to know where corners are cut and its clear that they didn't go cheap on the hardware. The locking mechanism of the panniers is rock solid and securely locks in place giving confidence that the top of the panniers is secure. The hooks on the bottom of the bags grip the frame and the frames themselves have rub strips to protect the carbon. The bags appear sturdy and are well designed with strap holders on the front and rear when the bag is rolled up. The inside of the bag next to the frame has panel to protect things like laptops and iPads and they also come with a lining bag to put them in if you don't have your own case. The lining bag has a soft texture and also has an outside mesh pockets for things that you want to store toward the top of the bag such as keys etc. (The lining bag can be removed to save a few ounces if desired.)...
The rack itself is 5 stars! I cannot fault it. It fits both my bikes, a Carbon Fibre aero bike and a aluminium commuter.
Switching between them is a doddle! I have a set of tailfin QR on each so I don't need to faff.
The rack is not noticeable when you don't have a bag on which is a plus, and if you do want to take it off and carry with you it fits in one of the bags!
The bags are good but not great, i have the lightweight ones and a close brush with a van tore it. the weight and rigidity is great though but the one downer for the bags are the removeable pockets inside. anything heavier than an innertube in the pocket and the poppers unpop. maybe a zip or stronger popper system would be better next time.
All in all i love it! i have done thousands of miles on it and now use it to take my kit to races as the rack usually fits in most lockers.
I cannot fault the rack it's self and since i purchased i think a more durable bag has been developed.
Be warned though, you will get asked a lot of questions about it along the way ;) people love it!
Excellent service, always quick in responses on e-mail. Fast delivery of products.
So far so good - all parts were received and the rack works as advertised. Turned my road bike into a cummuter bike.
Awesome product, great quality and very stylish. By far the best pannier system, and the bags are amazing.
Fantastic service and product. Outstanding response to all questions Super clarity on timelines delivery.
I've used a single Tailfin everyday for commuting and a pair when riding the NC500 on a bike that otherwise wouldn't take panniers. Brilliant in design and execution.
I'm loving the tailfin, feels really stable even when I load it up. Easy to fit to the bike, pannier itself goes on very easily. So much better than lugging my clothes around in a backpack on my commute.
Communication ws ex throughout the process-we were kept up to date as the product was developed.
Rack is made with care and it is amazing. Light, easy to install, and pretty. Looks like part of very sporty bike, not like rack for commuters.
There are 2 issues I found:
1. There is some incompatibility with my Ortlieb panniers. Lags are too fat for down hook. Did not expected that after commercials.
2. I lost attached fender after, I think, 3 days. It should be attached in much secured way.
I can live with those issues, rack is great.
contact facile et produit de qualité. Fini le sac a dos pour partir avec le vélo
It's stylish, lightweight , practical and I found it invaluable accompanying me o Lands End John O' Groats. I'm very happy with the purchase and hope there will be a small bag option soon
I love my Tailfin! It is sleek and sexy like my bike, no more big bulky ugly metal rack! The panniers that I already had fit perfectly with the attachments. The whole install time told about five minutes and has worked perfectly for the last 300+ miles.
Excellent product - took it round France for a cycling tour and it made the task of carrying stuff around so much easier. Looks great too - even on my classic Basso it complements the classic lines very nicely indeed. Lots of appreciative comments from other cyclists.
Aesthetically beautiful and practical.
Used it for almost 5 months. Mainly used it for commuting. Did a 2-day-1-night short cycling trip with it.
Both the installation of the pannier rack onto the bike and load the pannier onto the rack takes only seconds. And the integrated fender makes it perfect for commuting.
Very well designed. Both functional and aesthetically pleasing. A couple of very minor issues but nothing that makes me regret my decision to back/purchase this project
The product delivered was excellent. It fulfilled all my expectations.
I was excited when I learned about the Tailfin and realized it would enable me to do long (200 mile +) unsupported rides. I was also impressed with customer feedback I had read suggesting the product was of the highest build quality. I was pleased when I received the product and couldn't wait to try it out. It looks great and has lived up to its promised function. As for build quality, perhaps I had my expectations set too high but it's not quite at the level I was hoping. The little rubber nubs that fit where the Tailfin hooks onto the wheel axle come out every single time. I finally resorted to supergluing them in for fear of losing them. There are some plastic surfaces halfway up the Tailfin that the pannier will hook to. These I found to not be glued very well. They've held in place, though they look like they could come off without much difficulty, and I worry someday they will. Also, the logo is starting to come off one of my panniers. All in all I'm happy, and I'd still recommend, I just wish the build quality was a little higher.
It works really well, light, attractive and quick to put on and take off.
Great communication since the beginning of the project. Although the project was lag behind the schedule Nick was able to provide update and information on the progress. :)
