How to Repair AP Strap Channel: A Quick Guide
A step by step guide for repairing the strap channel on the AP Top Bag.
1. Required Kit
Parts required for this repair,
– Tailfin AP Repair Patch (Includes two patches)
– T25 Torx Key
– Double-sided tape
– Scissors
– Tenacious Tape
– Sewing machine (Use a strong needle if possible)
2. Remove Internal Frame
Using the Torx key, From the underside of the AP Top Bag, Unscrew and remove the internal frame.
3. Use Double-sided tape around the outside of the replacement patch
*Do not tape the central part of the patch where the strap needs to move freely.
Secure the patch over the original.
4. Sew around the outer edge of the patch
By rolling down the sides of the bag you can flatten it enough to get it a the sewing machine, a post machine could also be used (these tend to be used by shoe or bag repair services).
You may need a strong needle (if sewing by hand) to get through the layers of Hypalon. We recommend a 100/16 needle.
5. Re-installing Stacking Straps and Internal Frame
Before reinstalling the frame, we recommend cutting a patch of Tenacious Tape and placing it over the stitches on the inside of the AeroPack (being careful to round off the corners of the patch for better staying power), this will prevent water creeping in through the stitch holes.
It is also easier to rethread the Stacking Straps through the slots when the Internal Frame is still removed so we recommend doing this first.
When re-fitting the hardware to this bag we recommend re-applying medium-strength threadlocker to all of the screws and also re-tightening these to 5Nm.
